이 논문은 대행선의 주요 법설인 한마음주인공을 중심으로 불교학적∙선종학적 연원을 탐색하였다. 또한 이 용어의 활용과 확장에 대한 분석을 통해 한마음선원 설립의 정통성과 정체성을 확인하고자 하였다. 더 나아가 교단사[한마음禪院史]의 초기로 보고 대행 스승과 인연 깊은 문도들의 기억 회고를 통해 자료 구축의 방법론을 제시하였다. 이에 한마음선禪과 주인공관觀을 중심으로 분석한 연구내용을 여섯 가지로 요약한다.
첫째, ‘한마음주인공’에 대한 연원적 분석으로서 대승불교의 도량문화와 연계됨을 알렸으며 또한 이에 대한 정의적 분석을 통해 대행선관의 학술적 배경을 노정하였다.
둘째, 선종사적 분석으로서 한마음주인공은 선종의 종지인 직지直指와 견성見性은 물론 종조 보리달마의 안심安心 가르침에 적확하게 부합됨을 탐구하였다.
셋째, 산야에서 이룬 무정설법을 분석하였다. 대행은 벌레나 뱀, 초목 등 자연물(유정∙무정)과 망부석 등 조형물과 끊임없이 대화하였다. 대등한 대화를 넘어 아예 대상 속으로 들어가 그 입장을 충분히 헤아린 대화 과정에서 주객을 관觀하는 또 다른 ‘주인공’을 발견한 것임을 알렸다.
넷째, 치유에 대한 분석으로서 한마음주인공에는 무한의 에너지가 잠재해 있으며, 이를 깨달아 이용할 수 있음을 알렸다.
다섯째, 기록물을 중심으로 ‘한마음’ ‘주인공’의 활용에 따른 빈도를 분석하여 도식화하였다. 법회 영상물에서 시간적 활용을 분석했으며 이것이 삼주설법三周說法임을 알렸다.
여섯째, 문도들의 회고와 서사의 중요성을 제시하였으며 구술 대상자의 연령에 따른 유한성을 제시하였다.
The main themes of this paper are Daehaeng Seon’s principal concepts of ‘Hanmaum and Juingong.’ I examined the concepts of ‘Hanmaum’ (One Mind) and ‘Juingong’ (主人空 the original self) in terms of both the origin of Buddhism and Seon history. I also analyzed the utilization and expanded definitions of these two terms to confirm the legitimacy and identity of Hanmaum Seonwon (禪院). Furthermore, to study the early years of Hanmaum Seonwon, I met many of her followers and fellow students to gather more information. The methodology of presenting my data was suggested through the memories and retrospectives of her followers and fellow students. I then summarized my analysis and research from six perspectives: 1) I analyzed the origin of the terms ‘Hanmaum’ and ‘Juingong,’ and I confirmed that the culture of her Seon center was based on Mahayana Buddhism. I then analyzed those two terms from various aspects. Based on my results, I determined they could be summed up respectively as ‘concentration’ (禪, dhyana) and ‘meditative insight’ (觀, vipassyana). 2) I analyzed the terms ‘Hanmaum’ and ‘Juingong’ in terms of the principal historical doctrines of the Seon School. ‘Hanmaum’ is linked to the Seon concept of directly revealing the deepest principle without resorting to ‘expedient means’. 'Juingong' is related to the Seon concept of beholding the Buddha-nature within oneself (見性), becoming Buddha (見性成佛). I also suggest that these terms are consistent with the concept of ‘stable mind’ (安心) that comes as a result of Buddhist practice. This is the teaching of Bodhidharma (菩提達摩), the reputed founder of the Chinese Chan/Seon School (禪宗). 3) I analyzed Master Daehang's teachings of the Dharma from the aspect of insentience (無情說法). She observed both the subject and object in her inner conversations with nature, where she discovered her own 'Juingong'. 4) I analyzed Ven. Daehaeng’s teaching of mind healing. She said that everyone has an infinite amount of energy called ‘Hanmaum·Juingong’ and that anyone can realize this and use it for healing. 5) I analyzed the frequency of the terms 'Hanmaum' and 'Juingong' in records of her Dharma talks. I concluded that her teaching method made use of the ‘three rounds of explaining the Dharma' (三周說法). The Buddha repeated his teachings three times. 6) I concluded that we need much more data to research her teachings, and for that the collective memories and anecdotes of her disciples are very important.
