본 연구는 대행의 행장 속에 나타난 보살행과 전법을 계율적 측면에서 살펴보고, 그 속에 담긴 계행, 즉 계바라밀의 실천을 고찰하려 한다. 이에 『한마음요전』을 중심자료로 하여 대행의 행장과 이야기를 보살계 를 통해 해석하여 대행의 삶 속에 계행이 함께 공존하며 중생을 위한 보살행이 이루어졌음을 규명하겠다.
종전의 연구에서는 대행의 전법과 포교가 주된 연구과제였으나, 불교의 계정혜 삼학의 기본인 계행도 함께 이루어졌으며, 그 모습은 보살계 속에 담긴 유연하고 대승적인 계바라밀이었음을 확인하겠다.
연구의 순서로는 보살계의 대표인 유가사지론 과 범망경에 나타 난 실천행과 계율관을 먼저 확인하고, 그것의 주석서에서 해석한 내용 까지 확인하여 보살계의 시대성과 중생을 위한 실천을 파악하겠다. 그리고 그 내용을 토대로 대행의 행장 속 모습을 비교하여 대행의 전법과 포교가 한 개인의 모습을 넘어 대승불교의 이상적 존재인 보살로 서의 계바라밀이 겸수되었음을 밝히겠다. 이러한 본 연구의 과제는 향후 대행의 행적과 포교를 분석하는 것에 있어 보다 깊이 있는 율장 및 경장의 증거를 제시할 것이며, 현대불교에 서의 포교방법론에 있어서도 중요한 토대를 마련할 것이다.
This study examines "bodhisattva practice" and dharma propagation as revealed in the activities of Daehaeng throughout her life from the aspect of the precepts. It also examines the ethics contained therein, specifically, her practice of the perfection of ethics. Accordingly, using The Principles of the One Mind as a central reference, I will interpret Daehaeng's activities and stories based on the Bodhisattva Precepts to confirm that the practice of ethics was a central part of her life and that she performed bodhisattva practice for the sake of other sentient beings.
Most previous studies about her centered around her teachings and dharma propagation, but I will confirm that she also performed the practice of ethics — a basic element of Buddhism's three trainings (ethics, meditation, and wisdom)— and that this practice was presented as a flexible perfection of ethics characterized by Mahayana Buddhism as presented in the Bodhisattva Precepts.As for my order of research, I will first check the practice and perspective of the precepts as they appear in the Yogâcārabhūmi Śāstra and Brahmajāla Sūtra, two major sources dealing with Bodhisattva Precepts. I will then check the interpretations found in their commentaries to understand the nature of Bodhisattva Precepts as they were applied in the past and their practice to benefit others. Based on my findings, I will compare them with Daehaeng's activities to confirm that her teachings and methods of dharma propagation went beyond the scope of the individual, and that she practiced the perfection of ethics as a bodhisattva, an ideal being in Mahayana Buddhism.
The purpose of this study is to analyze Daehaeng's activities and methods of dharma propagation and identify more in-depth evidence from the Vinaya and Sutra Baskets for the sake of future studies. It will also provide an important foundation for ways of propagating the dharma in modern Buddhism.
