초록
이 고찰은 서울 시내에 있는 비구니 사찰인 청량사와 만해 한용운에 대한 상관성을 정리한 글이다.
지금껏 이에 대한 역사는 청량사 및 만해의 역사에 간략하게 서술되어 있다.
그러나 그 내용에 대한 학문적인 분석과 연구는 일체 없었다.
이런 배경에서 이 글에서는 다음과 같은 내용을 다루었다.
첫째, 청량사가 근대기에 갖고 있었던 문화적 특별함을 찾고자 하였다.
필자는 청량사의 음식이 명물이었음과 보편적인 모임 장소로 유명하였음을 관련 자료에서 찾았다.
둘째, 근대기 청량사의 비구니 스님에 관련된 활동 내용을 찾았다.
불교시보에 나온 청량사의 비구니들을 도출하였는데, 그 주역은 1929~53년의 주지로 있었던 신자영이었다.
셋째, 1937년 7월 12일(음력) 청량사에서 열린 만해 한용운의 회갑연에 대한 구체적인 내용을 정리하고자 했다.
회갑연을 주최한 인물, 참석 인물의 대상 및 성향, 기념 서첩에 쓰인 내용 등을 정리하였다.
넷째, 회갑연에서 나온 서첩, 즉 수연첩의 보관, 이동, 내력 등 자료에 관련된 제반 사정을 정리하고자 하였다.
이와 같은 배경, 취지에서 나온 이 글이 청량사의 역사 및 문화, 만해 한용운의 삶, 만해 수연첩에 담긴 문화적 가치 등을 조명함에 참고가 되길 기대한다.
This article summarizes the relationship between Cheongnyangsa Temple, a bhikkhuni temple in Seoul, and Han Yong-un (pen name: Manhae).
Although the history of this relationship is briefly described in the history of Cheongnyangsa Temple and that of Manhae, there has been no academic analysis or research on it.
Against this background, this article covers the following:
First, I sought to identify the cultural uniqueness of Cheongnyangsa Temple in the modern era.
I found that Cheongnyangsa Temple was renowned for its temple food and as a common gathering place for the Buddhist community.
Second, I searched for activities related to the nuns of Cheongnyangsa Temple in the modern era.
I studied them as they were introduced in Bulgyo sibo (lit. Buddhist Times), and the main character turned out to be Shin Ja-young, the abbess of Cheongnyangsa Temple from 1929 to 1953.
Third, I sought to identify specific details about the 60th birthday celebration of Manhae Han Yong-un, which was held at Cheongnyangsa Temple on the 12th day of the 7th lunar month, 1937.
I identified those who hosted the celebration, the selection criteria of the attendees and their characters, and the content of the commemorative booklet titled Manhae's Suyeoncheop.
Fourth, I wanted to organize all the circumstances related to the storage, distribution, and history of the commemorative booklet from this event.
I hope that this article, which reveals this background and my purpose for writing it, will become a reference source for illuminating the history and culture of Cheongnyangsa Temple, the life of Manhae Han Yong-un, and the cultural value contained in the commemorative booklet.
