이 논문은 묘공대행妙空大行의 법문 속에 함축되어 있는 종교관을 현대의 종교다원주의 담론과 관련하여 탐색하여 한마음 사상에 내포된 종교적 비전의 심층적 지평과 그 대화적 의의를 밝히는 데 목적이있다. 대행의 종교사상은 다양하며 중층적이다. 그러므로 대행의 진면 목을 파악하기 위해서는 거시적이고 다층적인 조망과 창조적 해석이필요하다. 본 연구는 대행의 종교관을 종교불학宗敎佛學적 관점과 방법 으로 접근하여, 다음의 네 가지 문제를 규명하고자 하였다. 첫째,대행은 종교의 본질을 어떻게 정의하고 있는가? 둘째, 대행은 사대성인의 가르침 안에 있는 종교의 공동기반을 어떻게 이해했는가? 셋째,대행은 기독교를 비롯한 이웃 종교를 어떻게 해석했는가? 넷째, 대행의 한마음 사상은 세계종교와 종교 간의 대화에 어떠한 기여를 할 수있는가?
대행은 붓다의 포용적 종교관과 “성인들의 마음은 둘이 아니다.[聖人無兩心]”라는 역대 선지식들의 입장을 계승하면서, 사대 성인들의 가르침의 근원은 한마음에 있다는 ‘한마음 공동기반론’을 제시했다. 대행의이웃 종교관은 외형적 종교의 종합이나 결합이 아닌 한마음 안에서의 내적 회통에 그 특징이 있다. 대행은 화엄과 여래장 일심一心사상을 한층 더 발전시킨 한마음 사상으로 그 안에 모든 종교를 수용할 수 있는 기반을 크게 확장하였다. 대행의 종교 인식은 종교와 불교라는테두리도 초월한 열린 진리의 지평이 있음을 주목해야 한다. 모든 존재가 하나의 생명 공동체임을 가르치는 한마음 사상은 다종교사회에 서 성숙한 종교인을 위한 심층적 대화의 문을 열어주고 있다.
The present article started with the intention to explore the views of religion implied in teachings of Myokong Daehaeng in relation to the discourse of contemporary religious pluralism. Master Daehaeng’s Thoughts are various and multilayered.
Therefore, in order to grasp it, a holistic multi perspective and in-depth interpretation are needed.
This study tried to explore the following four issues by approaching from the methods of ‘Buddhology of Religions’. First, how does Daehaeng define the essence of religion? Second,how does Daehaeng understand the common ground of religion in the teachings of the Four Great Saints? Third, how does Daehaeng interpret neighboring religions including Christianity? Fourth, how can Daehaeng’s One Mind idea contribute to dialogue between world religions?
Daehaeng presents the ‘Common Ground Theory of One-Mind’ that the source of the teachings of the world’s four great sages lies in one mind. Inheriting the Buddha’s inclusive religious view and the position of Buddhist patriarchs that ‘the minds of saints are not two’, Daehaeng saw that all the truths of the world are embraced and communicated in One-Mind, just as all streams reach the ocean, and become one. Daehaeng’s views on neighboring religions are characterized by internal communion within one mind, not synthesis or combination of external religions. The idea of One-Mind was established by further developing the idea Tathāgatagarbha and Avataṃsaka thoughts. Among the various ideas of Buddhism, the One-Mind has the most extensive basis for embracing neighboring religions. While Daehaeng’s view of religion is similar to the logic of modern religious pluralism, it should be noted that there is an open horizon of truth that transcends the boundaries of religion and Buddhism. Daehaeng’s idea of One-Mind teaches that present life itself is religion. The On ― Mind idea which teaches that all beings are in one-life-community, opens up the horizon of in-depth dialogue for mature religious people in a plural religious society.
